Police in Wakiso District have arrested one suspect in connection with an aggravated robbery that occurred in Sumbwe Village, Sumbwe Parish.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the incident happened on Friday, 13 February 2026, at about 10:00 PM when the victim, a resident of Sumbwe Village, was riding home on a motorcycle.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim had picked up two men around Busega who disguised themselves as passengers heading to Sumbwe Village.
Upon reaching Sumbwe, the suspects allegedly attacked the rider with a panga, cutting his helmet before robbing him of his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UMA 191DV) and a mobile phone.
Following an intelligence-led operation on 9 March 2026, police arrested one suspect from Kikunyu Village, Kamengo in Mpigi District. The suspect, a boda boda rider, is a resident of the area.
During the operation, police recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the robbery, including a mobile phone suspected to belong to the victim, a numberless motorcycle, and two other motorcycles with registration numbers UEB 559Q and UEC 678N.
SP Kawala said investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected.
“Following an intelligence-led operation, one suspect was arrested from Kikunyu Village in Kamengo, Mpigi District. During the operation, several exhibits were recovered, including a mobile phone believed to belong to the victim, a numberless motorcycle, and two other motorcycles. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing,” Kawala said.
Police said they are continuing efforts to track down the remaining suspects and will share more details as investigations progress.
